Ever since California passed a law outlawing holding your cellular phone while driving, I've been searching for a flexible mounting solution that will allow me to dial and talk without holding my phone. I've tried all manner of mounts and found this one to be the best.
This product consists of four components made by Ram Mounts. Ram Mounts is well-known in the motorcycle and off-road universe for making a wide variety of very high quality mounting solutions for phones and GPS units. The components in this kit are: (1) the X-Grip, which actually holds your phone, (2) a 4-inch long metal arm, (3) a suction cup mount, and (4) a ball joint that connects #2 and #3 together.
The X-Grip is a spring loaded mechanism. You just spread the arms apart and insert your phone. When you release the arms, the arms come together and the four rubber points (they look like circles in the picture) hold your phone in place. The grip is firm, but not so firm that it would damage...

I've tried many different brands and types of mounts. They all failed to stay put and some had cradles that were cumbersome and/or weren't flexible enough to adjust to your car. In fact I gave up for a while, and simply put my phone in the cup holder (those mount types also didnt work well for me). But then I saw the RAM mounts on-line and was impressed with their product line, so I gave it a shot. What a difference! As soon as you unpack it you can feel its weight and see how well made the movable parts are. None of the other mounts I purchased compare in quality. The suction cup is amazingly strong and doesn't fall off. The overall adjustability is great and the phone cradle is easy to work with. I have it mounted just below my rear view mirror in landscape mode and it's been just perfect. This is a great mount for the iPhone and any device that you want to mount on a windscreen. It is fully adjustable to fit a phone or gps unit. I keep it in my travel luggage and use it when I rent a car so that I can always have GPS in a different city.
